MSBOC protects consumers by licensing and regulating Mississippi’s construction industry through policies and procedures that promote the health, safety and general welfare of the public in matters relating to construction. MSBOC’s mission is accomplished by:
- Licensing contractors and enforcing licensing laws;
- Requiring that any person practicing or offering to practice construction be licensed;
- Enforcing the laws, regulations and standards governing construction in a fair and uniform manner;
- Educating consumers so that they may make informed choices.
There are more than 10,000 licensed contractors in the state, with multiple licensing classifications. In addition to educating consumers about contractors and construction law, MSBOC activities include administering examinations to test prospective licensees, issuing licenses, investigating complaints against licensed and unlicensed contractors, issuing citations, suspending or revoking licenses, and seeking administrative, criminal, and civil sanctions against violators.
The MSBOC Statewide Investigative Team works to eliminate unlicensed contractors working in Mississippi. Investigations are conducted weekly around the state.
On this site you can find educational materials about hiring contractors and the construction process. You can also check the status of a contractor’s license, find other important information and file a complaint.
